Power System Planning and Advanced Applications

This inclusive program focuses on Power System Planning and Advanced Applications, starting with a comprehensive look at Power System Dynamics and advancing to modern Distribution applications such as Smart Grid: Substation/Distribution Automation. Participants will develop their expertise in systems planning/application while understanding major aspects of Power Systems. Participants have the option of attending the preceding program, (Power System Engineering Courses), however not required.

Full Second Trimester

Synchronous Machine Fundamentals

October 8, 2018 – October 11, 2018 • $2,800

This course delivers a detailed presentation of the design and construction of synchronous machines, including theory of operation, synchronous machine models, the Park’s transformation, the per-unit system, steady-state and transient operation, and control of real and reactive power.

Power System Dynamics

October 15, 2018 – October 18, 2018 • $2,800

This course provides the foundation for an understanding of power system dynamic characteristics.

Smart Grid: Substation/Distribution Automation

October 22, 2018 – October 24, 2018 • $2,600

Learn about power distribution systems planning and engineering, including basic design and operation of U.S. systems; how to meet cost and performance objectives; equipment application considerations; and how to assess and improve distribution reliability.

Power Electronic Applications in Transmission

October 25, 2018 – October 26, 2018 • $2,100

Learn about the application of power electronics in modern power transmission systems, including high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and flexible frequency transformer technology.

Distribution Systems Planning and Engineering

October 29, 2018 – November 1, 2018 • $2,800

Gain a deeper understanding of smart grid technology, especially related to substation and distribution automation applications for which the course explores designs, technical issues, and benefits. Additional topics include the real value of the smart grid and a summary of its architectures.


Cancellation Policy: Full refunds are issued for cancellations made 20 business days or more before the course start date.  No refunds will be issued for any cancellations received less than 14 business days prior to the start of the course.  The cancellation date is deemed to be the date that GE’s Energy Consulting receives a written cancellation.
