I'm inspired and excited about the future of renewable energy as a disruptor. I take pleasure in working on challenging real-life problems to make the electric power grid “smarter”, cleaner, and more sustainable through integration of renewables. I take pride in enabling our customers to meet their targets.

About Sudipta

In 2013 Sudipta Dutta joined GE Energy Consulting where she is currently a Senior Engineer. She leads several projects at GE, working with global customers such as system operators, utilities, wind/solar developers, enabling them to integrate renewables in their power grids. She is an internal and client-facing subject matter expert on wind plant model development, contributing to development and studies of both generic and GE specific controls and dynamics models, and testing and model validation to meet NERC MOD requirements. She has consulted national and international clients meet grid code requirements relevant to wind plant performance such as fast speed of response, fault ride-through, active and reactive current contribution during faults. She has performed sub-synchronous resonance (SSR) studies, assessed stability of wind plants in weak grids, and studied mitigation methods to enable large scale renewables integration. Dr. Dutta is proficient in power system-analytic tools such as PSLF, PSSE, and three-phase EMT based detailed simulation tools such as GE WindTrap and PSCAD.

Before joining GE, Dr. Dutta was a post-doctoral research associate at UIUC, as well as a key contributor to Stanford University’s GCEP project. Her PhD research was titled “Data Mining and Graph-Theory Focused Solutions to Smart Grid Challenges”, in which she developed algorithms for visualization and information extraction from large volumes of power system data. She also applied graph theory for automation and optimization of wind farm collector system design. Dr. Dutta’s experience includes wind power forecasting, optimal storage sizing and coordination for wind balancing, and congestion management. She interned at IBM T. J. Watson Research Lab and at NEC Labs America. At UIUC and GE, she instructed courses on Power Circuits and Electro-mechanics, Green Electric Energy, and Renewable Power Systems.
