As a part of GE Energy Consulting's Power Economics team, through Generation & Transmission Planning, Reliability Analysis and Country-Specific Risk Studies I am constantly learning the Electricity Statistics of Regional (India) and Global Power markets due to RE-Integration.

About Ankita

Ankita joined GE Energy Consulting in June 2015 as an Application Engineer with the Power Economics team, and was promoted to Senior Engineer in 2018.  Ankita works on a variety of Power Economics and Power Systems projects with the GE Energy Consulting regional team in India. In Power Economics projects, she is conducting generation & transmission planning solutions, and evaluates the reliability of the studied systems using GE proprietary tools including GE MAPS (Multi-Area Production Simulation) and GE MARS (Multi-Area Reliability Simulation). Ankita is also engaged with power market tools, like PLEXOS for capacity expansion planning. Ankita is also supporting a variety of Power System Projects were, Grid Code Compliance and Model Validation for Gas, Steam and Hydro Turbine Generators are required using GE proprietary software GE PSLF (Positive Sequence Load Flow). 

Ankita works across the world with GE and industry partners on a variety of global and regional projects with Power Economics team.

Her experience on global projects in Power Economics Team are in the Bangladesh Grid study, that included analyzing generation & transmission capability to meet grid existing demand and projected demand growth (up to 2018) using GE MAPS and NY PRIZE Microgrid Project using DERCAM software. With her GE MAPS skill, she also conducted economic evaluations in UAE-Qatar, Lao PDR and Cambodia projects to review the power market study.

Regional Projects for the Power Economics Team include, Integrating RE modelling with power sector planning of India for economic analysis of energy technologies such as gas/steam turbines, gas engines & wind/roof-top PV applications. She also performed the modelling for Integrated India using MARS for evaluate the system reliability for integration of renewable energy in 2022.

Recently, she has completed the all India GE MAPS model in HPC environment and prepared India Grid Summary. She also performed mathematical and statistical techniques to quantify the RE-variability and ramping requirement to the thermal power plants during high RE-Penetration in India by 2022 to evaluate operational characteristics for Aero gas turbines.

Currently, she is supporting members of the GE Energy Consulting team in the U.S. with Indonesia GE MAPS Modelling in HPC environment, developed PLEXOS model for Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam as a scope of the generation capacity expansion planning work for AIMS-III project, and leading the Cambodia and LAOS PLEXOS modelling for capacity expansion scope as a part of AIMS-III project.

Before joining GE Energy Consulting, Dr. Ankita Samui worked with Power Conversion Systems Lab, GRC, GE India in 2014 as Research Consultant where she was working on “Dynamic Brake Program” for protection of DFIG based GE Wind Turbines from the grid-loss and grid-fault conditions. This program was a MATLAB coding; interfacing with Flex5 Simulink model with different wind-turbine control configurations and MS-Excel based interface to analyze the output. She was also working on the Optimal Reactive Power Dispatch for a large-scale Wind Power Plant by Optimal Power Flow evaluation using MATLAB Coding.
