Power Systems Engineering

PSEC four-week programs are designed for industry professionals looking to improve their knowledge in a particular field of study. To have a successful learning experience, a well-balanced curriculum that reconsiders engineering theory, focuses on relevant power systems applications and examines current industry issues is advised. PSEC courses use the latest industry software allowing participants to completely appreciate subjects through case studies while others spend some time in our power labs or on area tours/visits to help understand applications and gain practical knowledge.

This inclusive program focuses on key Power Systems Engineering Courses, starting with Power Systems Fundamentals and advancing to Protective Relaying and Reactive Power Compensation and Voltage Control. Participants will develop their expertise in Power Engineering while understanding major aspects of associated Systems. Participants traditionally attend the following program, (Power System Planning and Advance Applications), upon completion of this quarter.

Power Systems Fundamentals

September 10, 2018 –  September 11, 2018 • $2,100

Receive an introduction to power markets and fundamental concepts of the electric power system, including: challenges related to reliability, performance
and potential bottlenecks or limits on the system that can impact trading, and key power market fundamentals.

Power Systems Analysis and Symmetrical Components

September 12, 2018 – September 14, 2018 • $2,600

Learn about power system analysis fundamentals, including the evolution of alternating current power concepts and an analysis of unbalanced faults on large electric power systems.

Transmission Planning and Analysis

September 17, 2018 – September 20, 2018 • $2,800

Get a detailed look at transmission, including steady-state power flow analysis and dynamic simulations that show how to interpret results using world-class software analysis tools from GE. Additionally, the course discusses the impact of deregulation in the power industry.

Surge Analysis and Equipment Application

September 24, 2018 – September 26 AM, 2018 • $2,500

Learn about switching and lightning surges, overvoltage control and protection, and coordination of overvoltages with equipment insulation to ensure safe and reliable design. The course also covers how to quantify transient voltage stresses from the electrical environment.

Reactive Power Compensation and Voltage Control

September 26 PM, 2018 – September 28, 2018 • $2,500

This course describes how to improve power factor and voltage regulation. Examine case studies on the effect of reactive power on voltage regulation and power transfer at the transmission level.

Protective Relaying Fundamentals

October 1, 2018 – October 4, 2018 • $2,800

Gain an analytical understanding of the application of components of power system protective relaying. The course covers engineering best practices required to protect transmission, distribution and rotating machinery systems.

 

Cancellation Policy: Full refunds are issued for cancellations made 20 business days or more before the course start date. No refunds will be issued for any cancellations received less than 14 business days prior to the start of the course. The cancellation date is deemed to be the date that GE’s Energy Consulting receives a written cancellation.
